- Lean software development greatly influenced the Agile mindset. When you look back at the Agile Manifesto, you'll see that the focus was on software development. Remember that the full title for the manifesto is "The Manifesto for Agile Software Development." But today, most coaches and developers think of Agile as a mindset. It's not just a set of values and practices, but a whole new way to think about product development. Much of the reason for this was an article that came out about a year after the manifesto. The article was called "Principles of Lean Thinking" by Mary Poppendieck. Mary and her husband Tom had been studying lean manufacturing for years.
