- [Instructor] Our next few lessons will focus around geospatial customization. Geospatial customization provides additional mapping options and tool extensibility, including custom formatting, third party maps, and custom background images. Advanced formatting tools and third party maps enable a deep level of customization within Tableau desktop. Third party maps can include a variety of different options. You can think of weather maps, population, and more. Custom backgrounds allow you to customize visuals or create non-traditional maps. Non-traditional maps can include office spaces, factory floor plans, manufacturing plants. Really anything that you can map out in a 2D space can be imported as a background image. You might not think these are technically maps, but if they have XY coordinates and a visual components that people will reference, then we can leverage them as maps inside Tableau.
