- [Instructor] Malicious attacks can come from anywhere and compromise virtually any part of your computer. Malicious software can attack systems through online activities, phishing threats, and even by gaining access from external devices. However, threats can also attack your computer during the boot process. These kinds of malware attack rootkits and bootkits, and they try to take control of the computer before the operating system loads. To protect systems from this kind of threat, Secure Boot can be used to prevent unauthorized or malicious software from loading during the system's startup process. Briefly, here's how it works: When you turn on your computer, Secure Boot checks the digital signatures of the boot loader. It also checks the state of essential system files. If these signatures are valid and match what's expected, the system continues to boot. If these have been tampered with, or altered in any way, the boot process stops.
