- Every Android app needs to launcher icon. A graphic that appears on the launcher screen, that the user taps to start up the app. For my memory eater application that I created to demonstrate the memory profiler. I have a launcher icon that has an image of a hamburger and a shake. And when I click on the app, that graphic also shows up here in the app itself. Here's how I created it. I went to the app module and then I right clicked and chose new image asset. In the image asset wizard, you can choose to create launcher icons, Action Bar Tab icons, and a number of other kinds of icons. It says image asset, but it's really designed just for icons. Each icon has a foreground layer and a background layer, and there are also certain options available that lets you create legacy versions of these icons for older versions of Android.
