- [Instructor] A Continuous Data Protection Chain, also known as a CDP chain, is going to be a sequence of files, and it's going to allow you to roll back a virtual machine replica to a specific point in time when needed. Veeam created CDP chains for each virtual machine to a CDP policy for VMware. The replication chain contains short-term and long-term restore points. A short-term restore point allows you to roll back virtual machine replica data to a state created seconds or minutes ago whereas a long-term restore point is going to allow rollback to a state created hours or days ago. Short-term restore points are always crash resistant whereas long-term restore points can be crash consistent or application consistent depending on how long-term the restore points are configured in the CDP policy settings.
