- [Instructor] Geospatial analysis uses location information as part of the modeling where that location information can be gathered from various sources. There are many data sources that we can use that contain geospatial information. The government provides plenty of information about income, family size, population density, and other demographics. This information can be provided for the nation or by state, county, zip code, census block, census block group, and census tracked. There are many vendors who sell data on quality of life, school quality, safety, consumer spending, business trends, social media trends, and other statistics at the zip code level. Knowing the exact latitude and longitude enables more precise computations. A common approach is to do spatial smoothing by computing averages within a fixed distance from a location of interest.
