- Did you know that several large organizations have moved to skills-based hiring as a way to improve their diversity representation? If that doesn't immediately seem intuitive, you are not alone. I felt the same when I first saw the headlines. Between 2017 and 2019 employers reduced degree requirements for 46% of middle-skill positions and 31% of high skill positions. In addition to removing four year degree requirements to reduce barriers for candidates to apply, paying further encourages organizations to conduct interviews based on skills. With the steady rise of coding boot camps and other online learning resources for skills that did not exist 5 or 10 years ago, it isn't surprising to see companies removing the degree requirements.
