- [Instructor] A key component of data governance is code and software, since code creates and processes the data. Privacy and security leaders often focus on data, since data represents a very visible, a very tangible, a very changeable risk vector. Companies collect user data. Companies get fined when they misuse user data. Companies suffer damage when they lose data in breaches, so I'm not surprised and neither should you be that companies invest a lot of resources in adjusting their data for risk. However, just focusing on data and ignoring the risks emanating from the code is like trying to lose weight by exercising only without any care for consumption and diet.
