That's because the more relationships you have in the organization, the more opportunities, projects and positions you'll gain access to. Having a strong diverse network is essential to career growth but many people get uncomfortable with the word not working. Let's think about why. For some, going up to a stranger and asking for their name and contact information is the height of terror. They worry about being judged or seeming awkward. Others have no trouble initiating a conversation but may feel it's manipulative to start a relationship for the sole purpose of gaining something.
