- Let's face it, as analysts, we have a fondness for making things efficient, and value stream mapping is the go to technique to find where waste is in a process. It's a visual technique that maps out a time series of activities to deliver a result. Chris, our agile BA, first creates a current state value stream map of the current process. He then analyzes it to improve the process, and then create a future state values stream map to depict what it will look like once the improvements are implemented. Value stream maps are similar to process maps, but also contain information about wait times or queue times. This is the time between the steps of a process. Analyzing these, helps improve the process. Here's an example of how a software development process would be mapped out in a value stream map.
