- [Instructor] Windows 11, like other operating systems, uses certificates to verify the identity of people, places, and things. A certificate can be used to verify that an individual or an organization is legitimate and can be trusted. Certificates are also used to ensure the software you obtain and install hasn't been maliciously modified. Certificates can be used to prove that the websites you visit can be trusted as well. Certificates are stored in CertMgr, which you can open by searching for manage user certificates from the Start menu. And here we are. Each entry here is referred to as a certificate store. There are multiple verification companies that create certificates to establish an entity is legitimate. This digital certificate is installed on the company's web server and can be viewed by those that access it. If a website's address starts with HTTPS, you know it has one.
