- [Instructor] In this video, let's consider the format of an IP version 4 address. And as an analogy, let's say that you asked your friend for their address, and they wrote it down on a piece of paper. And this is what it looked like. 27837th Street. There's this big number, and we don't know what portion of that number refers to the street and which portion refers to the house number on that street. For example, did they mean to say 278 37th Street or perhaps they meant 2783 7th Street. We're not sure where the dividing line is between the house number and the street number. That's the challenge that we have with an IP version 4 address. Because an IP version 4 address has 32 bits total. And we talked earlier about this dotted decimal notation. We have an example, IP version 4 address of 10.1.2.3. And if we break each of those four decimal values down into their eight binary values, that's going to be a total of 32 bits,…
