- [Instructor] Another type of IP version 6 address I want you to know about is an IPv6 unique local address. This is somewhat analogous to those private IP addresses we had with IP version 4, those RFC 1918 addresses that could not be routed on the public internet. Here, R1 is communicating with R2. We're going to a destination IPv6 address of FD00::2, but notice that is not routed out to the public internet. Here's the format of one of these unique local addresses. The first seven bits begin with six ones and then a zero. So we're told that one of these unique local addresses have to begin with FC00::/7 since we're mandating the first seven bits, and we said the big characteristic of this address is it's not ratable on the public internet, but it is ratable inside of our network.
