Cloud cost accountability
- One of the main functions of FinOps is to provide cost accountability for cloud computing. This means several things, including monitoring the cost of cloud computing over time, such as how much public cloud storage is consumed over a given period. Monitoring who or what is consuming cloud services. We need to know what the service is used for, whether it's applications or humans, also for what purpose. Finally, monitoring the rise and fall of cloud service consumption over time, including the reasons for each. As you can see, this is like monitoring the consumption of household utilities, such as electricity, water, and gas. The idea is to track exactly what's getting used, the cost of the usage, and the patterns and trends moving forward. This is the primary purpose of FinOps.
