If you breathe better, you sound better when speaking
- When I run my in-person classes, I always ask my students one question, what's the one thing you want to get out of our class together? And the most common answer I get is, "I want to sound more interesting, Vin." We all tend to be really self-conscious when it comes to our voice, and we all want to sound better. And when people think about the quality of their voice, they often miss the most important thing, what's the fuel source you use to create sound? It's your breath. How you breathe has a major impact on the sound that you can produce. When we are anxious and stressed, we usually breathe with our shoulders and our upper chest, and when we do this, we suck our bellies in, and this is the incorrect way to breathe. We shouldn't be engaging in our shoulders and our neck to breathe. These movements over time can lead to pain and aches. Think about this crazy thought, right? We breathe on average of 22,000 times a day. So if you're breathing incorrectly, that's 22,000 incorrect…
