How to create timelines

- [Narrator] When we think of a date analysis, we typically think of a timeline. A timeline is when you plot one or more measures against a continuous date. To understand more about discreet continuous dates, check out the date chapter where we go into this in more detail. Now, in order to create a timeline, we need two things. We need a measure. This is the thing we're going to track the change over time. This needs to be a numeric value, and we then need the continuous version of a date. In our dataset, we have Order Date and Shipping Date, so we can look at the Order Date. Now, the quick way to get a continuous value is to use the right click drag or Option drag method for a Mac user. When we add the date to our row or column, we get this dialogue box come up here where we can select the type of date that we want. Discrete Dates are the top in blue, Continuous Dates are at the bottom in green. So let's select the month of order date. When we click OK, Tableau puts a mark on each of…
