- [Instructor] In order to understand how and when Tableau does something, we need to think about Tableau's order of operations. Now, this diagram shows the order of operations that Tableau does. Starting at the top and moving towards the bottom is the order in which Tableau's going to perform these functions. Now, it's important to understand this because some of the behavior that Tableau does could be influenced by some of the other things that we do. And understanding the order in which these are going to be applied can ensure that we get the correct analysis, the correct visualization, and the correct answers from our data. So the first thing that Tableau does when it analyzes the data to produce any view that you create is look at filtering. Filtering is the removal or inclusion of data that we define.
