- A big part of maintaining and optimizing our operating systems is keeping the mass storage that we put those operating systems on happy. So in this episode, I want to talk about error checking and optimization of our mass storage. Error checking simply means, like it sounds, to check for errors on our hard disk drives and our SSDs. Optimization is a way that we can organize our hard disk drives, and to a lesser extent, SSDs so that they simply run more efficiently. So let's go ahead and start this. Luckily, we have both of these tools at the exact same place. So here I am on my D drive. So all I have to do is right-click, select Properties. And you'll see a tab that says Tools. So the first one I want to talk about is error checking. So let's go ahead. It's pretty easy to run. Let's just run this guy. So we go through this scan, whatever that means. Yay!
