- It seems like everything we do these days has to be authenticated several times over and there's actually a reason for that. So let's dig in a little bit into what we call multifactor authentication and talk about some of the common types. Now the first one is something you know and it's literally called something you know which would be your username or password or maybe some sort of login pin or something like that. It's a very insecure method of multifactor authentication. It is the first step because passwords get broken, get shared, they get reused, they get hacked, all sorts of things. So just having a single form of authentication was not enough. So we moved to what was called two factor authentication, or 2FA, and it's probably the one most of you are familiar with, and that is something we have. So like a physical device, right?
