The importance of a professional portfolio

- Welcome to this chapter. Here, I will share with you key information about why it is so important to set time aside to plan and reflect on the way you display your work in a portfolio and the best do and don't practices. So, let's start with the why. These days, you can easily share your work on the internet with just a few clicks. So probably, you're wondering if it's necessary to even create a digital portfolio. Well, the answer is simple. Potential employers and clients will request to see your portfolio on 90% of the cases. The other 10% might find you online through Dribble, Instagram, or Behance, and then, when starting to discuss work, they will request a portfolio or you will find it yourself in the need of sharing your ideas through well-organized past work examples. While writing this course, I looked at a ton of tips already out there. The eight steps to the perfect portfolio, the 10 rules of success, and so on. And yet, the truth for putting your foot through the door is much simpler. To create a strong portfolio, you must curate it, keep it simple, and connected with any relevant point of context. Curating your portfolio simply means that you have to think about it throughout, by selecting works and placing them within a particular layout in order to inform and inspire the viewer. While to keep it simple means that the way you display your work will have to mirror an elevator pitch. The goal at this stage is to earn a second conversation, not to convince the viewer that they should hire you but that they should contact you. And that's why my third point is connected. Links to call-to-action are the best way to seize the moment and create new connections to propel your career in the direction you desire the most. And now, follow me in the next video for more practical dos and don'ts tips. I will see you there.
