- I want to tell you about a very cool resource that you can use right now to check to see if your passwords have been compromised in a previous data breach. A data breach is a cyber attack where passwords or critical account information is stolen. Each time this happens, hundreds, or thousands, or hundreds of thousands of passwords are taken by malicious attackers. There have been so many data breaches with passwords compromised in the past several years. In many cases, these passwords become public, and future attackers like to collect up all of the known breached passwords and try them against new accounts in the future. Malicious people collect these previously compromised passwords and information security professionals do too.
