- [Presenter] As we start to talk about data governance, our first stop is to discuss policies and standards. This may sound less interesting than some of the other topics we've covered so far, but they are vital in ensuring our data is secure and safe. Policies are high-level rules that tell us how our data should be managed, accessed, and protected. It's important to work through what policies should be and make them available to all employees in your organization. It's one thing to have policies, but the important thing is to make sure you're following them. Data standards go hand in hand with these policies. These are more specific though, and relate to how we standardize our data and ensure it is accurate and reliable. These could be naming standards or perhaps standards for the format data should be stored in. There are many categories of data policies and standards, and there are a lot of resources out there that you can use to help guide you when developing your guidelines…
