- [Instructor] The Windows Firewall with advanced security has been built into the operating system since the days of Windows seven, and that includes its server equivalents. It's configured without the box baselines that do a reasonably good job of protection. So for example, inbound traffic is going to be blocked by default, with some exceptions, and then there's outbound allowances as well. The thing about Windows Firewall is it's really separate to Defender Endpoint and Defender Antivirus. You would always want to use Windows Firewall if you're consolidating on the Defender stack, but Defender Antivirus doesn't have to be in active mode for the firewall to work. There's a few principles that you should really know about to help you master the Windows Firewall. The first of those principles is the concept called rules. Rules are what build up the firewall.
