Applying patterns to add interest
- [Instructor] There are so many fun ways to use patterns in digital designs. And so the fifth principle of design we'll be exploring here is pattern, which offers you a way to keep your designs ordered and organized, while also providing a sense of harmony and visual interest. For our purposes, the principle of pattern has two distinct meanings. It can be seen as a repeating element that lends your design, a sense of texture, movement, and visual interest, and it can be used as an organizational principle or system that holds your design in a certain arrangement, like using a golden ratio or a 12 column grid to organize your layout. Let's take a closer look. The most obvious example of using pattern in design is the creation of a grid of objects that share similar properties like thumbnail graphics on a gallery page where each image is the same size and distance from the next.
