- When you were younger, you probably went on at least one field trip. You visited a location such as an art gallery, a museum, or a place of historical value, like a battlefield or a government building. Yes, it was exciting because you got a day off of school, but that was not the purpose of the field trip. It turns out that field trips have a number of valuable educational attributes. But before we move on, let's define the term field trip. For our purposes, a field trip is a formalized situation and location designed to facilitate knowledge acquisition of an individual or group of individuals within a specific environment or experience. Again, think of visiting a museum. It's a formal collection of historical artifacts. It's in a specific location, and the museum encourages you to observe up close all of their exhibits.
