Communicate clearly (so no one can say ‘i didn't know’)
No matter what industry you're in, if you want people to follow through you have to make sure they heard what you said. Here's a couple tips to make sure your instructions stick. First, one of my favorite things to do is actually ask your teammate to repeat back to you what you just asked them to do. The second thing is say important things at least twice. It may sound like you're repeating yourself, but I promise you it helps it stick. One thing I include every time I'm giving direction is some sort of timeline, or when my expectation is that this will be done. If you're communicating important information that you've communicated over and over again, here's one way to make sure that you're not sounding like a broken record. Start off with the beginning of what you're going to ask your team to do, and then ask your team to come up with the answer or finish your sentence.
