- [Instructor] AI is a powerful and useful tool but like any other tool, if used incorrectly, it can lead to unexpected and unwanted consequences. A serious concern with generative AI is that it can provide opportunities for plagiarism, both unexpected and intentional. AI models are trained on vast amounts of data which includes copyrighted material. As a result, there's a risk that it may inadvertently generate content similar to existing works without any intent to plagiarize, but it can also be used to automatically paraphrase existing content while preserving the original meaning, making it possible for pirates to leverage the creativity and work of others to generate new materials. There's already a cottage industry in generating and regenerating books and artwork and passing them off as original creations and this will probably get worse before it gets better.
