- You are brave, and I am proud of you for advocating for your promotion. If your manager is unable to promote you now, ask for feedback. Knowing what you need to do for a promotion can help you decide if you need to take your skills, knowledge, and experience somewhere else. In this lesson, I'll share with you how you can ask for feedback and what you can do with that information. First, consider the meeting feedback. When you asked for a promotion, did your manager say why they couldn't promote you? Was their response clear? Did they rush out of the meeting? It's your right to know why you can't get a promotion yet. Don't be afraid to ask for feedback and use that information to your advantage. Did your manager say you need to gain leadership skills? Ask for a stretch assignment. Take a class, course, or help with tasks that require leadership. Discuss a timeline for your promotion.
