- Most people think learning involves attending a formal training program in a classroom or online, like this. And while it can be helpful, it isn't the only way we learn. A lot of our social and collaborative skills are learned informally. Most teammates learn through observing others, trial and error, and then feedback. And out of these three, feedback is something that all teammates contribute to, whereas observing or trial and error is something we tend to do on our own. Typically, managers provide feedback when really our job is to help employees coach and teach each other. Peer-to-peer coaching conversations are all about informal discussions between teammates, where they can explore areas for growth, development, and feedback. Typically, these conversations last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, making them a great way to connect and learn from each other.
