- Lecture isn't dead in training, it's just changed. Years ago, it wasn't unusual for presenters to talk for hours. Today's training participants will quickly tune out if a trainer lectures for too long. A better way to train is to combine your presentation with frequent audience interaction. A good rule of thumb is to limit your classroom presentations to 10 minutes or less. Webinar presentations should be even shorter, with a maximum of five minutes before incorporating some form of interaction. Now, even with these guidelines for short presentations, we know our audience can easily lose focus. You can overcome that by establishing a clear presence, delivering with a clear voice, and eliminating unnecessary distractions.
