From the course: Inclusive Tech: Retaining Diverse Talent

Retaining your diverse team

- [Instructor] Many tech companies are committed to diversity and inclusion. They have all the right partnerships in place for hiring. They sponsor all the best conferences and they have great benefits, but research shows with the best of intentions, a common problem surfaces. Companies hire women and underrepresented minorities as entry-level engineers, but the engineers leave after a few years, and the diversity of the company, especially for senior engineers and managers, does not change. In some cases, it gets worse. What's the problem? Retention. If this sounds like your company, you are not alone. A lot of very well-meaning initiatives go into hiring diverse teams without considering the other parts of the pipeline. I'm Christine Chapman and I'm an engineering manager and the founder of "Changing the Story." In this course, we will cover how to improve retention through each stage of the employee life cycle, from onboarding to the exit interview. Through the lens of tech companies of different sizes and stages, I'll share best practices that you can implement at your company. I'm excited to help you and your company take actionable steps towards retaining diverse teams. Let's get started.
