- [Instructor] Do e-book readers judge if an e-book is good or not simply by looking at its cover. I know I do sometimes, but it is critical to make sure that your cover is strong enough to attract the attention of potential readers when they're looking at a screen full of miniature covers of e-books. And in fact, including a cover image in your EPUB is a requirement of the EPUB 3 specs. You probably have noticed that while we're exporting our documents from InDesign to EPUB, that InDesign is kindly offering to rasterize the first page, and that means it's going to be using it as a cover. Rasterizing means taking all the different pieces that might be part of your cover of this page and turning it into a JPEG or a PNG, the whole thing, so it doesn't come through as live text.
