- [Instructor] What are the essential features of an EPUB, of the EPUB format as opposed to other formats for eBooks? First of all, an EPUB is always self-contained in a single file. Any images or videos or all other kind of cool stuff, any fonts, it's all in a single file. with the extension .epub. It's actually kind of like a Zip file with all of the different files and images inside it, and we're going to actually unzip it later on in this chapter. Another essential feature for an EPUB is that it's an ebook that does not require an internet connection. Once you download it, you can open it up on any device or any software that you have, whether or not you are near the internet, and you'll be able to access the entire book. That is a requirement for EPUBs. The EPUB standard is cross-platform and open source. As I mentioned, the same EPUB that you create on a Mac can be viewed on a Windows machine or a Linux machine.…
