- Our next topic is real-time analytics. Let's first start with the question, what do we mean when we say real-time analytics? Well, in short, you could say that we want to provide insights as soon as new data is available in real-time. Another question is, why would you want real-time analytics? In my work, many customers start by asking for real-time solutions because they like the idea of having insights as soon as possible. That is, until they understand that this requires a fundamentally different approach to analytics, and that it only makes sense if the data itself comes available in real time. For a straightforward solution on top of a line of business system, it is normally not a problem when reports are only updated overnight or a few times per day. The strong case for real time analytics is for data that comes in as a continuous stream of data where value can be derived from generating insights on the fly and where actions can be taken on these insights automatically…
