Letterspacing and wordspacing for minuscules
- We say that the small letters like to hold hands and dance. In other words, these letters are meant to fit together snugly to give them a linear visual continuity. Good spacing between letters and words is just as important as well-made letters. Good spacing helps with legibility and also gives the letters a more beautiful appearance. Edward Johnston is considered to be the father of modern calligraphy, and he said it best. "The goal before us is simple, "to make beautiful letters, and to arrange them well." Overall, our goal is to create an even texture of writing. Think of your letters as stitches in knitting, or threads in fabric. You want to achieve an even interweaving of strokes, nothing too loose or too tight. In these examples, you can see that even texture. Here are some guidelines to help you create that even texture.
