From the course: Learning Cinematography: 3 Hands On Techniques
Welcome
- Hi, I'm ASC cinematographer Bill Dill. In this course we're going to teach you the most important hands on techniques needed to create and control your look when making images for narrative cinematography. I'll go through some of the basic concepts needed for successful, expressive lighting. I'll show you how to use the cinematographer's most indispensable tool, the light meter. We'll talk about lenses and the factors that go into choosing the right one for your shoot. Once you've chosen your lens, there are a couple of pieces of gear that will make pulling focus a lot easier to do well. I'll help you make smart, focused decisions, I'll show you how to effectively and accurately pull focus, we'll also learn about working with actors as they and the camera move through the shot. I'll provide quick fixes for common problems that can occur on your set and I'll show you how to maintain the momentum of your shoot to keep driving things forward. This course is packed with useful and practical information so you can make the movie you've always wanted to create. So let's get rolling.
