Tangibility: Making space to create when remote

Today we no longer work only in offices. We can engage knowledge, skills, and team members from around the world. While the tools will continue to evolve, the principles of how they support effective collaboration and what design thinking needs from them are consistent. The three elements your remote spaces need to enable are, first, shared thinking. Does this support the development of ideas together? Can we see patterns emerging and make links between them? Second, the micro/macro view. Does this support exploring details like a research quote or a prototype feature, and seeing how it fits into our big idea? And third is shareability and iteration. Does it help us bring outsiders into our work? Can we rapidly explore new solutions? And when we need to, can we keep some things private? As you start forming a remote or hybrid team, I recommend drawing this matrix to help you think about which tools you have today or may need to explore. Consider what you need to use to collaborate…
