Creating a typographic collage
In this movie, I am going to create a type collage, specifically numbers, that will make extensive use of clipping masks. Let's begin with a blank canvas. 3000 by 3000 pixels. Now I'm going to start with my vector shape tools with a rectangle and let's make sure that rectangle has no stroke. I'll just click to specify its size. I want it to be 1,000 by 1,000 pixels and I'll position this at top left. I have my smart guides turned on. I might also want to just turn on a grid. If I come to my preferences, guides, grids and slices. I'll have a grid line every 1000 pixels with just one subdivision. Command quote mark will turn on the grid. I'm now going to duplicate that shape and again and then I'll select all three, duplicate them down and then repeat that. I'm holding down the Alt key and the Shift key as I do that. Okay, now I'm just going to change the order of my layers so that they read 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. And that's just going to make it easier for me to correspond the…
