- A fake account on LinkedIn is an account that does not represent the true identity of the user. It could be an account that's impersonating a famous person, or it could be an account that is trying to scam somebody, or it could be a group of accounts that all look exactly the same, for example. Bad actors make fake accounts so they can hide their true identity, they can scale their abuse because one account is only allowed to do so much on LinkedIn, and so they can mislead members. Scammers will want to convince members to invest in some opportunity or to connect with them and start chatting with them, and so they will trust them, and so they may make a profile that is an attractive member of the opposite sex; we see that a lot. Or they may make a profile that is a senior executive at a bank, and so you can believe that they actually would have an investment opportunity, for example, when it's really, actually a scam. When…
