Reading a simple piping and instrument drawing (P&ID)

- [Instructor] Let's try our hand at reading piping and instrumentation diagrams, or P&IDs. Remember from the previous video, P&IDs are more detailed than process flow diagrams. They show controlling items like temperature sensors, electric valves, other instrumentation, and they're much better for troubleshooting and coordinating the work. They almost always have a key or symbol legend. They even have what's known as a point schedule that talks about all the different instruments that are controlling the particular process. Let's take a look at one. Here's what one looks like. On the bottom, you can see the process, and on the top, you see the point schedule. This is an additional diagram that talks about the logic of all of the instruments that monitor and control the process. I've clouded out a few things 'cause I want to look at 'em.
