- If you think that working hard, supporting your team, and achieving most of your goals will be enough to support your growth as a leader, I have tough news for you, that's just the beginning. Real growth over time requires something more. To begin, what you need is a solid perspective on where you are now. So start by looking over your recent performance evaluations. What you think about yourself matters a lot, but you have to be focused on how others on the leadership team view you too. Then consider any feedback you've received from a mentor or coach, customers or clients, or anyone else. When you reflect on all of this, it will help you more clearly know where you stand and it will help you understand where to invest your time in activities that will help you grow.
