Aspect ratio
- [Instructor] As we discussed in the last video, aspect ratio is the ratio of the width of an image to the height. Aspect ratio is a very powerful photographic tool, compositional tool. Here's an image shot with a 4:3 aspect ratio. I shot this with a Fuji medium format camera. That camera allows you to change aspect ratios. Now the camera's always shooting the full size of the sensor, which is 4:3, but because it's a mirrorless camera, it has an electronic viewfinder so it can show you other aspect ratios, and in fact, it tags the RAW file with those aspect ratios, so they come out of the camera already cropped. Here's the same shot on that camera using one of its wider aspect ratios. Now it may take you a minute to sink into this, and I haven't edited this image, but something about that camera looking through the world with this aspect ratio, everything's just more interesting to me somehow.
