When one mask isn't enough
- [Chris] In this movie, I want to do a little three-part workflow where we will use some retouching techniques we've learned as well as masking to improve the image, change the color of the hat, and add more clarity and focus on the eyes. So let's start with something we know. We tap the Q key to select the Remove tool. Here I'll use Generative AI and a brush to paint over the bright white bokeh spot that's there above the subject. And the reason why I want to get rid of that is the eye always goes to brightness; it goes to areas of contrast, things we can identify. And when you have something that's bright on the edge of a frame, like we had there, let me show you before and after, it's taking away from the subject. So now we feel like, yes, this is all about the portrait subject, great. Next thing I want to do is, the client has said, "Hey, Chris, love the portrait that we have here. This guy's a very influential, creative, really cool guy, as you can tell." And they say, "Hey, we…
