- There's no getting around it, the stress of presenting to key decision makers where every second counts can be overwhelming, so be sure you build in time to practice your message, both during and after you've finished crafting it. Here's some tips for keeping your cool while presenting by controlling your time and your energy, even with those inevitable interruptions. Master your timing. Create a precise timeline that marks exactly where you should be during your presentation. I call this My Leader's Guide. For example, in a 20 minute presentation, know what point you should be making at 5, 10, and 15 minutes. Make the intervals appropriate for the length of your talk. You should also want to mark where you should be at the final minutes. Use these as checkpoints. If you are interrupted, you'll know exactly how much to adjust the pace to hit your key messages.
