- If traditional process documentation is like a photographic snapshot of a process that can at best be taken once every few months, runtime monitoring with process mining tools is like a 24/7 livestream video. Process mining tools accomplish this by automatically capturing event data from an IT system the instant it's generated. Without event logs, this can still be replicated to some degree with task mining algorithms that classify and structure process data as soon as it's observed on the workers' desktops. Compared to other business intelligence tools, runtime monitoring and process mining is unique because the data is not standalone, but is structured in the context of an end-to-end process.
