- Hi, my name is Richard Harrington, and welcome to this course where we'll explore screencasting on your PC. Screencasting is the recording of your screen's content, and sharing it with others. And unlike a webinar, or a Zoom meeting for example, you're doing it at a higher quality format because you want to edit it down and repurpose it. It might be for internal training, or maybe a tutorial that you share in a video podcast, or perhaps you need to do a product demonstration or walk somebody through something on a website. There's lots of reasons. Now in this course, we're going to walk you through all the key information you need, to successfully start screencasting, as well as do it at a professional level. We'll start by making sure you have all the right equipment, and I'll show you things at a few different budget points. We'll talk about connecting a standard web camera, as well as using other options such as a DSLR, or a mirrorless camera to dramatically improve quality. We'll also talk about backdrops, lights and microphones, so you look good and sound good. I'll also walk you through on your PC how to adjust things, making sure that you have the proper camera chosen, that the screen is at the right resolution, that the fonts are readable, we'll walk you through some of the utilities and the system settings that matter. We'll then explore several different ways to record your screen, looking at simple tools that might be built into your computer, as well as the ability to record with specialized software that adds additional functionality. And we'll give you some essential advice on editing this content, making sure you understand standard delivery aspect ratios, resolutions and frame rates so the content is ready to export and share to a broader audience. My name is Richard Harrington and I've been producing screencast tutorials, and content both for myself and clients, for more than 20 years. I've seen the industry change dramatically, and this used to take highly specialized equipment, and really expensive materials to pull off, to things that you can do right on your smartphone or computer with no extra additions. But what hasn't changed is the need to have a good plan, and to be technically proficient, making sure you take the time to get things right, so you record the quality that you need. With this in mind, let's get started.
