What to know before starting this course

- Well, just before we begin this course, there are some things you should know. The movies in this course will take you from very simple to somewhat more complex procedures. That being said, you don't need any prior knowledge of Microsoft Publisher to move along smoothly with me, in this course. You should however understand what Publisher is, and what it is not. Microsoft Publisher is considered to be more of an entry-level desktop publishing program, unlike some of the heavyweights out there, like Adobe InDesign, FrameMaker and QuarkXPress, three of the most popular desktop publishing programs around. Publisher is targeted more to a small business environment that would not have dedicated design professionals for producing various publications like marketing materials and other business documents. Now if you're a subscriber to Office365, then you have access to the entire suite of Microsoft Office Productivity Tools, which includes Publisher. Otherwise, you'll need to have either the Professional, Professional Plus, or volume licensing of the standard version of Office installed, to have access to Publisher. It's not available all on its own. Also, Publisher is always being updated as part of Office 365, so it is possible that what you see on your screen could differ slightly from what you see on my current version of Microsoft Publisher, but don't worry about it. You'll be able to follow along with me without any issues. And lastly, there are exercise files that go with this course. So if you do have access to the exercise files, I highly recommend placing them in a convenient location such as right here on the desktop. When you double-click the exercise files folder, you'll find subfolders representing the chapters in this course, and double-clicking one of those folders will reveal the files we'll be working with in that chapter. Now if you don't have access to the exercise files, not to worry, you can still follow along with me, by simply sitting back, relaxing, and watching.
