What values are influencing you?
- Once you've written out the debate in your head, everything that the "yes, go" voice is saying and everything that the "no, stay" voice is saying, you can start to see which of your values are at play here. Our values motivate almost everything we do, and when we get upset, it's generally because someone has stepped on our values. So understanding what your primary motivating values are and how they're coming into play in this decision can give you a great deal of clarity. So, you may want to go through that list of all your yeses and all your nos and make a note of what value does this concern represent? So, "Yes, I should go "because this is an exciting opportunity." Ah, there's a value of excitement, or, "Oh, no, I should stay because it feels secure." Great, there's a value of security. There's not a system for this. There's not a right or wrong way to do it.
