Elevate your presence: Use profile to build your brand
- A wise person once said, "A personal brand is not just a logo or a name. "It's the story you tell the world." A personal brand is the unique combination of skills, experiences, values, and personality that you present to the world. Think of it as the sum total of every single experience someone has with you. When building out your profile, it's crucial to set yourself apart from others in your industry with similar roles. This is where your personal brand takes center stage. Believe me, I know that defining your brand can be a bit overwhelming, and the biggest question is always, where do I begin? A simple way to get started defining your brand is by coming up with your top three to five brand characteristics. Brand characteristics are the key traits, skills, and values that define you. These can be things like trustworthy, innovative, creative, collaborative, or inspirational to name a few. Remember, you don't have to create your brand alone. Others can always help you. Turn to your professional community and ask some key questions, such as, "What words would you use to describe the work I do?" You can also seek out teammates, mentors, or managers and ask, "After you have a conversation with me, "what are the top three words you would use "to describe the experience I created for you?" And finally, you can even ask friends or partners, "What can you count on me for?" Remember to ask a diverse group of people to get a broad perspective. Answers to these questions will help you begin to uncover your brand and the experience you create for others. Then you can bring your brand into your profile and stand out in your industry. Another way to promote your brand is by sharing stories and real examples of your work on your LinkedIn profile. Want to show off your creativity? Think about adding videos, photos, or even PowerPoint presentations that capture your unique creative vision. Ready to highlight your collaboration skills? Why not ask a teammate for a recommendation that highlights what it was like working with you on a project? Whatever you do, just make sure it's true to who you are and how you want to be seen. Your brand should always feel authentic to you. Remember those key brand characteristics we discussed earlier? Write down your top three to five and keep them front and center as you move through this course. This will help you create that extra magic so you stand out on LinkedIn.
