- When you develop your project infrastructure, one of the first things you're going to need to think about is characters. And, of course, you're going to want to have some primary characters. The question is, how many? Well, I tend to work in very short short form, one to three minutes. So I really don't have the latitude of using more than one or maybe two main characters. And if you're working in a slightly longer short form, maybe three to five or six minutes, then maybe you can throw in a few more characters, some might be supporting characters. If you work in very long non-fiction, 30-minute, 60-minute, then you can start having five, six, or more characters. So think about how many people the audience can really connect with and build empathy with in the amount of time that you have for your script. So for example, we might have a couple here, Kanesha and Alan, they're from Chicago, and maybe together they're going to tell this story. So that's a pretty typical situation where…
